Steranko Nick Fury, Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D. #1 Steranko was one of comics’ premier innovators in the 1960s and 1970s. During his brief tenure, writing and illustrating Marvel’s Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Captain America titles, he created more than 75 unprecedented storytelling techniques and visual devices, ranging from psychedelic pop art to spectacular four page spreads, which to be seen in their complete forms, required two comics. The winner of numerous international awards, he has produced two highly acclaimed graphic novels, Chandler/Red Tide and Outland, he has also written and published two volumes of the Steranko History of Comics. He has shown his work at more than 100 exhibitions in locations including Italy, England, Canada, Australia and France. He has painted more than 100 paperback and hard bound book covers, record jackets and movie posters, in addition to working with Steven Spielberg as production illustrator on Raiders of the Lost Ark and as project conceptualist with Francis Ford Coppola on Dracula. Currently he edits and publishes the international entertainment magazine, Prevue. This cover measures 10”x 15”, pen and ink on paper. The original art was rendered on a separate sheet of typical, 4 ply Strathmore paper and affixed to a standard Marvel template. The overall cover appearance is generally clean with a light glue stain in the upper right corner of the art. Minor white-out appears in tiny areas on the cover. The title and indicia are paste-ups. The woman with the gun was originally larger and may have interfered with the logo so the art was reduced and the stat sits over the original which is fully accessible beneath. The psychedelic effect, on the cube which behind Fury’s head is applied.
